The Ultimate Guide When Visiting Bali

Bali has been a hot topic of places to visit for years now. It’s something about the culture and simple lifestyle that makes you never want to leave. This is great place for solo, family/friends, and couple travelers.

Bali has two main seasons, dry and rainy season. November to March is the rainy season and April-October is the hot season with very little rain. If you are looking for a cheaper time to visit Bali it should be in April, May, June, and September. The busiest and seems to be the most expensive time to go is in July, August, December.

Many tourists come from all over the world to practice yoga, meditation, and other spiritual retreats in the center of Bali, known as Ubud.

Must Know Information

When landing in Bali, you will more than likely have an overwhelming feeling about the large crowd of taxi drivers yelling. It is recommended that you pre-plan how you’ll get from the airport so that your trip can have a smooth start. Luckily, a lot of hotels offer transportation to and from the airport.

Make sure your expectations fit the environment and the country you’re visiting and you’ll be just fine. Balinese are incredibly gracious, welcoming, and respectful people. Most of the locals you meet in Bali will speak English and are bilingual. Try to taking some time to learn a few key phrases before you go.

Bali is one of Southeast Asia’s most friendly and most visited tourist destinations. There is crime in every part of the world, so in that regard, Bali is no different. There are, unfortunately, reports of theft and sexual harassment. Like any place you visit, commonsense is necessary to avoid danger, especially at night in unsafe areas.

You will find lots of stray dogs and monkeys in Bali and you should always be considerate of them because they are not pets. Make sure to bring bug spray with you because you can come in contact with Dengue fever. Dengue is a flu-like illness that can be transmitted by mosquitoes. You will find most bathrooms have a hose with water instead of toilet paper so you will probably want to bring extra tissue. Also, don’t drink the tap water!

Money & Rules

Bali’s currency is in IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) and mainly accepts USD, Euro, and AUS currencies everywhere. It is known though that exchanging to IDR is quite easy. The average cost of a trip to Bali is around $3000 USD for two people for two weeks. This includes flights, activities, food, accommodation, and transport within Bali.

  • Couples should not kiss in public, and visitors should respect the Balinese’ aversion to such intimate gestures.
  • Don’t bring drugs into Indonesia. Indonesia has the death penalty if they are caught smuggling drugs in or out of the country. This also includes buying drugs of any kind while in the country.
  • Don’t put your feet up on a chair or table showing the bottoms of your feet.
  • Don’t touch a Balinese person (or child) on their head.
  • The Balinese are modest people and tourists walking around in bathing suits is not appreciated.
  • Don’t step on ceremonial offerings.
