Is It Really Worth Moving Out Of The Country?

Have you ever thought about moving out of the country (U.S.)? Are you thinking moving and questioning if you should? For many reasons a lot of people have been thinking about this lately. Mainly due to crime, racial tensions, politics and inflation. The cost of living is getting ridicules and you have to think to yourself “Is this really how I want to live my life?” Well we are going to tell you why and why it might not be worth it. We will also list some countries you should think about moving to.

Many other countries outside of the US offer many different reasons that you should move, but is it worth it?

This can be a confusing conversation, but hopefully you can get some clarification about this question that you have been asking yourself by the end of my blog.

Why It’s Worth It

Affordability

Many countries are actually more affordable than you think. You are overpaying for nearly everything here. From housing to food to transportation. Every single expense you have right now can basically be cut in half by moving to another country. The cost of all around living is much cheaper in other countries.

A list some of the most affordable countries to live:

  • Philippines
  • Thailand
  • Portugal
  • Vietnam
  • South Africa
  • Ecuador
  • Costa Rica
  • Malaysia

Healthcare

Healthcare is really good and not as expensive in other countries. Some countries are at the of the top-ranking for long life expectancy because of their healthcare system. Did you know that the U.S. actually performs worse in common health metrics like life expectancy, infant mortality, and unmanaged diabetes than other places. There are countries that offer free and affordable healthcare!

Countries with the best healthcare:

  • Brazil
  • Costa Rica
  • Cuba
  • Japan
  • Malaysia

Safety

Even though, there is crime everywhere, there are other countries that are actually much safer. There are countries that are so safe that they don’t even have an army. There are also countries out there where people can just go off grid. No phone, wi-fi, or anything just living life.

Some of the safest countries:

  • Iceland
  • New Zealand
  • Austria
  • Denmark
  • Australia
  • Norway
  • Canada
  • Germany
  • Sweden

Why it’s not worth it

Leaving friends and/or family

Are you comfortable leaving and not seeing your friends and family a lot. Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone. This can be a major thing for some people.

It’s not as easy as people think

Many things go into moving to another country and it can take a lot of time. Not only time, but also a lot of documents. Even if that means moving hours away.

Dual Citizenship

Dual (or multiple) citizenship or nationality means that you are a citizen of more than one country. If the country you are thinking about moving to does not offer dual citizenship, then you will have to give up your citizenship in the U.S.. The major drawbacks of dual nationality are the potential of double taxation and getting bound by the laws of the two countries. Furthermore, becoming a dual US citizen can be a long and expensive process, especially if you don’t have an immigration lawyer to guide you. Find out more about dual citizenship.

Many countries permit dual citizenship with America, including, but not limited to,

  • Dominica
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • Malta
  • Cyprus
  • Greece
  • UK
  • Australia

Conclusion

Thinking about moving can cause a lot of anxiety especially moving far. You shouldn’t let that stop you from living the life that you want to have and that you envision for yourself and family. Take a look at your options and make that decision. For some, the pros outweighs the cons. For others, not so much. Check out more of All Travel Beasts blogs.
